Local Rules

The following USGA rule deviations are considered local rules and have been approved by the CGSGA Board of Directors and the CGSGA membership:

Ball Lost or Out of Bounds: If find your ball is out-of-bounds or if you are unable to find your ball (i.e. it is a lost ball) then you should drop a ball within two club lengths of where you believe the ball went out of bounds or as near as possible to the area you believe the ball to be lost.

  • Add One Stroke to Your Score:  In either case you must add a stroke to your score.

Gimmies:  In order to speed up the pace of play you may take a gimme when your ball lies inside the leather of a standard putter (approximately 24 inches).

Pick Up After Boggie: If you miss your bogey putt or you lie at bogey in the fairway you must pick up your ball and proceed to the next tee.

Rock & Root Rule.  In order to protect both our players and their equipment we have established a "local rule" regarding rocks and roots.  Rocks and roots may be treated as Immovable Obstructions and the player may take relief in as follows:

  • Rocks:  In the event your ball is sitting on rocks (except when within a penalty area) you may drop your ball within one club length of nearest point of relief not nearer the hole.
  • Roots:  If the ball is on a root the player may drop his ball not more than one club length from the nearest point of relief and no nearer the hole.

Roll the Ball in the Fairway:  We allow you to roll your ball up-to a club length in the fairway but no closer to the hole except:  A ball in the rough or in the bunker may not be moved and must be played as it lies.

Pace of Play:  Always try to keep up with the group in front of you.  If you find that you have an open hole in front of you, please pick up your pace-of-play or allow the group behind to play through if you are holding them up.
